    About This Tour

The tour that shows you the island most visitors never see. 🐢🌋

Most people who visit San Cristóbal spend their days on the water. The Darwin Circuit takes you in the opposite direction — into the island itself.

Morning in the highlands: the only freshwater lake in the Galápagos, and a tortoise breeding center where the next generation of giants is being raised by hand. A stop at one of the most remote beaches on the island. Lunch above it all, with a view.

Then down to the coast: the natural history museum that tells the whole story of these islands, a walk up Frigatebird Hill, and finally — a snorkel in the calm cove where Charles Darwin disembarked from the Beagle in September 1835. The same water. The same black volcanic rocks. A very different world beneath the surface.

We pick you up at your hotel. We bring you back when the day is done. Everything in between is taken care of.

What Will We Do on This Adventure?

Laguna El Junco — The only freshwater lake in the archipelago

Laguna El Junco — The only freshwater lake in the archipelago

We head up into the mist to El Junco, the only permanent freshwater lake in the Galápagos — a volcanic crater filled with clear water, ringed by ferns and endemic plants found nowhere else on Earth. On clear days, the view from the rim stretches to the Pacific. Frigatebirds fly up here to rinse the salt from their feathers — a behavior you won't see on any coastal tour.

Centro de Crianza — Where tortoises are born

Centro de Crianza — Where tortoises are born

The giant tortoise breeding center, where eggs are incubated, hatchlings are raised, and young tortoises are protected until they're strong enough for the wild. Your guide explains the full life cycle and the conservation work behind it. You'll see tortoises at every stage, from palm-sized hatchlings to animals already decades old.

Playa Puerto Chino — A beach at the end of the world

Playa Puerto Chino — A beach at the end of the world

Before lunch, we stop at Puerto Chino — one of the most remote and pristine beaches on San Cristóbal. White sand, turquoise water, and almost no one else around. A natural pause before the afternoon begins.

Centro de Interpretación — The story of these islands

Centro de Interpretación — The story of these islands

Back in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, we visit one of the finest natural history museums in Ecuador. Walk through the geological, ecological, and human history of the Galápagos — how the islands rose from the ocean floor, how life arrived, and how conservation efforts today are protecting what remains.

    Cerro Tijeretas — Frigatebird Hill

    Cerro Tijeretas — Frigatebird Hill

A short trail up Cerro Tijeretas rewards you with a panoramic view of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the open bay, and the Pacific horizon. Magnificent frigatebirds circle overhead. This is the hill above the cove where Charles Darwin first stepped ashore on San Cristóbal in 1835.

Snorkel where Darwin landed — Tijeretas Cove & Punta Carola

Snorkel where Darwin landed — Tijeretas Cove & Punta Carola

We descend to the cove below Cerro Tijeretas — the exact bay where Darwin disembarked from the Beagle. The water is calm, crystal-clear, and full of life: sea turtles, colorful reef fish, and the occasional sea lion. After the snorkel, a short walk brings you to Playa Punta Carola — sea lions on black volcanic rocks and golden afternoon light.
